About the Artist

Natalya Crier

Life is beautiful – all you need to show off its charm is a canvas and some paint to record it.
I love the Earth’s wonderful creations: complexity of wildlife, the diversity of animals, the innocence of its children, the depth of its ocean and the infinite vastness of its sky. Naturally, I like to see new places and hear fascinating stories. As an artist, whatever I see, I imprint on canvas and share the result with other people.
Originally, I am from the other side of the Globe – I grew up in the beautiful city of Odessa, Ukraine, located on the Black Sea coast. As a big port this city has a very colorful history and is home to people of over 80 different nationalities. The sandy beaches, colorful markets,
expansive boulevards and quaint street cafes are all great inspirations for an artist.
Creativity is deeply ingrained in my upbringing. I graduated from the Odessa college of Art and Theater with a degree in costume design and worked at the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet for 8 years.
In 1989 my family and I immigrated to our new home, Austin, Texas. So, my love of painting had to be put on pause while I focused on starting a new life. After working and later owning a pioneering local Spa, I decided to again concentrate on what I loved the most, painting.
Recently, I have begun to hold art exhibits and to sell my art. My favorite subjects are native animals and Texas landscapes – I paint many of them with the idea of Magical Realism, uniting reality with a sense of otherworldly potential. Ultimately, while looking at my art I want people to smile, relax, and consider the possibilities when humanity figures out how to live in harmony with nature.
